If a single butterfly can topple the world:
Who needs heroes when you can have martyrs?
(But who needs sinners when you can have saints?)
Every leader will be a tyrant,
Every soldier, a slave.
Can you be the change?

If a single butterfly can topple the world:
Every ripple can make a difference.
(But is it the difference you want to make?)
Every drizzle is a hurricane,
And every action, a wave.
Yet I don’t see the difference.
I don’t see the change.

A lone woman on a bus,
A marcher in a parade,
A single act of defiance
That will continue to resonate.
You don’t need to resort to violence
To make a statement that will stay.

If a single butterfly can topple the world:
Will you defy or will you obey?
What difference will it make?
Every heartbeat is a conscience,
Every choice echoes from day to day.
You can be the catalyst.
You can be the change.

The author's comments:
According to the butterfly effect, a flutter of a butterfly's wings can cause hurricanes on the opposite end of the world. Thus, this poem basically is supposed to inspire us to make a difference, because even if the action we take is small, it could still be the catalyst for larger results. There's also a contrast on what kind of change we could make: it's easy to make a negative change, but it's harder to make a positive impact, and the latter is what we should all strive for.
