Bruises
The wind blows his hair
Rocks crunch under his boots
He tilts his hat up to see the blue sky.
Not a car has passed him yet
There isn’t even one in sight
Though that’s what he hoped it would be.
The bag on his back is full
A canteen half-full of water in a pouch
That has to last him through the night.
Not knowing where it is he’s going
He just needs to get away
From the bruises that cover his body.
