Gateway to Unremembering
I watch as you pass me by
with your eyes that are a gateway
into a soul that doesn’t remember me
You don’t know me
but I know you
I know you like the back of my hand
a hand that has risen to smack itself
a cruel blow, just for remembering
the old times
Just like everyone else, you look at the surface
the clothes and skin and makeup
but not underneath
into the soul that remembers you
that remembers the lies you used to say
but the times have changed
You don’t know me
but I know you
I know you like the back of my hand
and instead, you look at her
but you still simply look at the surface
and not within
so pass by me, going to her
not even noticing me
because soon, I won’t even be here
I will be somewhere else,
where it doesn’t matter how you look
where you can just unremembered
You don’t know me
but I know you
I know you like the back of my hand
