The rain holds the dark clouds
 cushioning their fall
 as the grass
 soaks up the
 liquid adrenaline
 serving as the lifeline
 between reality
 and whatever this is
 that we're living now.
 Gravity always taught them
 that it hurt to fall
 but falling for you
 is the greatest feeling
 and when the raindrops
 meet the pavement
and the satisfying “hiss” is heard
it is impossible to not see
 the beauty called
 living
 the feeling of grass
 between your toes is
 like the day you
 first try a drug
 that starts with an “L”
 and ends with an “o-v-e...”
add an “r” and the “love”
 becomes
 “over”
 and the
“I need to talk to you”
spitting out from beneath the dirt
 making you remember
 every
 bad
 thing
 you've ever done,
 and the rain keeps falling
kissing the tips of our noses
 and not caring that anybody
 is watching.
And does that park bench look
lonely, or are you just abhorring
the presence of someone as lonely as you?
Because the grass blades have family
 and the raindrops have friends
 but you are
 left alone to burn out
 on a park bench
in the middle of december, yes
just leave the clouds alone to their tears
and let yourself soak up the
love of the grass once more
