Quotation Marks
He said to me “I wish this would be
exactly like last year, except you have
a boyfriend and that would be awkward”.
The thing is, my “boyfriend” only texts me when
he’s bored now, and it’s extremely obvious.
He walked up to me when I was crying,
dropped everything in his hands, and
hugged me tight, promising me over and over
again that everything was going to be alright.
When things get tough, my “boyfriend” decides to go
to sleep because he doesn’t know what to do to
help make it better.
He saw the curlers in my hand and told
me I was gorgeous with our without them
in my hair, and by the smile on his face,
I could tell he actually meant it.
My “boyfriend” only says things about my looks when
I put on a dress or wear a low cut shirt.
And then it’s only “hot” or “sexy”.
He sends texts to make sure I’m okay
the next morning, and then asks if I’m
lying when I say I’m fine, because
he knows I am.
When I see what we’ve done together,
there isn’t anything there.
A sudden rush of nostalgia resurfaces what we
once had, and I’m sad that I ever let that go.
I fear that my “boyfriend” is going to push his limits
and not understand what I mean when I say stop.
As soon as he notices something is wrong,
he’ll be there to stand by my side.
My “boyfriend” will be the one who
made it wrong in the first place.
“You seemed upset and that’s a pointless
emotion that people get stuck in”
“Why would you do something like that?!”
In reference to something I love
Him.
Just quotation marks.
