Little Sister
We are the same person. She’s a younger version of me, down to the brown hair and bright green eyes. She sees the world so beautifully and is well beyond her age in insight and thought. She knows enough pain and love to feel life and appreciate it for all that it is, but I’d give everything I have to protect Her from the world that I know. She still believes in beautiful things that I have long forgotten, yet hold close in memory. She is the image of all that I used to be, blissfully unaware of life as we know it. Oh what I would do to keep her from seeing the things I have come to know, see, and feel. My soul has long gone cold, and she still has light in her eyes, not a dull seeping vacancy. I’ve loved and I have ached and have seen and been through things I should never have had to, and it has made me into a bitter soul, only to protect myself. And it kills me from the inside. I could never let that happen to her.
She is undeniably good.
