"Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." ~The Cinderella Story

Walking into an unknown world
not knowing if you will get out
terror and sadness throughout the crowd
different races with different faces
no food, no water, no clothing
several thousand others surround you
not being able to communicate
a place no one wants to be
your friends and family, nowhere to be found
one working, one starving, one dead
piles of innocent people
died in vain,
hatred at its worst
its survival of the fittest,
every man for himself
body loses all its fat
now its just you
trying to survive
few prisoners left
days before your removal from the camp
the war has come to a close
your body can’t take anymore
trying to hold on,
your hands slip
the last thing you see
the gates opening to your freedom

We were told to write a poem about a historical event, I chose World War 2 and in particular at the concentration camp because for most it was where their life came to an end and they were unable to live life to its full potential.
