My Hidden Friend

On the outside they see,
Someone I don't want to be,
Most of the time my friend shows his face,
Something that just can't find a place,
Sometimes I see the light of day,
But my friend always gets his way,
Keeps my tongue chained down,
My mind he surrounds,
Grips into my head,
Wish it was something instead,
MY hidden friend is not me,
But to everyone that's all they see,
Sometimes I wish he could be something else,
So I'd feel better about myself,
Just something obvious, that's all I want,
Something not so subtle, something blunt,
But he doesn't just bring me pain,
He has brought along some gain,
I am my own person, not much to say,
I see things in my own way,
I'm proud of who I am, nothing I can change.

I love it! I really felt connected to it even though I don't have Asperger's, but it helps me get a better understanding and also I connected it to wanting to make changes and being stuck with the ego created for ones self, something I can relate to

This poem hits Asperger's on the nose!
