Enlistment MAG
He's going downtown today.
He's worried they won't like him,
 there'll be something wrong in
his head or his blood or his eyes,
but I know they will love him.
They will love the silent young man in front of them
who keeps his hair cut short and takes orders well
 because he'd rather not think
 but
 He's going downtown today.
 I'm worried they won't know.
They won't know or care that he
loves Carrie Underwood and cutie clementines,
 They won't know how well
he can do impressions of Dwight Schrute,
They won't know he likes to draw and
they won't realize how they dragged his father away from
the church on the hill on a Sunday and how
there's been something else in his face ever since.

 He's going downtown today.
They will just see the full six feet
and the broad football shoulders that could easily bear a gun
 and they will say,
 “Good.”
