When the Rain Came:

When the rain came,

Everything

Was soaked.

The puddles were like

Oceans,

Vast and mysterious.

When the rain came,

The plants sang

And danced for joy

In this godforsaken

Dry land.

When the rain came

It smelled as fresh as

Clean, white laundry

Hanging out to dry.

When the rain came

They cried,

For what they had done

And what they had left

Undone.

When the rain came

They spun and laughed,

Giddy

With the sense of spring.

When the rain came

I had my first kiss

And he stole

My heart

When the rain came

He had to leave

Taking my heart

With him.

When the rain came

I tried to sew myself

Together

With tears.

When the rain came

They died,

Leaving me alone

With their ghosts.

When the rain came,

He did too

And patched my broken heart.

When the rain came

I dressed in

White

And met him at the alter.

And ever since then,

When the rain came

We relived that moment

When we thought puddles
Were oceans.
