"When You've Gone"
Write me when you get there, Mother.
write me when you've gone.
when you've left me and him and her,
when you've abandoned all you had
and
all your other troubles, too.
Write me with a smile on your face
and not a care in the world,
not even your own children's.
Write me when you've reached
a peachy paradise,
one of many that surpass home.
when you no longer have a use for
umbrellas or rainboots,
or me.
or us.
Send me postcards and pictures
of where I don't belong
and boast of your new memories.
Write me with success and happiness
and laughter and pride
and all the other things I could
never bring you.
Write me a letter
of "guess what?"'s and
"You should've been there."'s
Write me with a clear mind
and no regrets.
Dot you i's with hearts and
tell me of your adventures,
Mother.
I won't write back.
