His time was up.
I still remember those eyes
Her gaze guarded from blades and knives
Forced to face the reality
She was on the verge of giving up
Tired of fighting the brutality
She knew his time was up
Her footsteps followed the resting bed
Those trembling hands caressing his forehead
Until he reached for her palm and said
Every chapter comes to an end
Only this time it’s my life instead
She pursed her lips and squeezed his hand tightly
Her eyes pressed shut as she sat there quietly
Tears trickled down her cheeks
As she screamed in dismay
When a mother lost her child
And watched him pass away
