Eyes of a Survivor
Treading the dark waters in the sea,
I came upon a shore so calm and serene
The cold water sent shivers down my spine
As I saw the night staring back at me
Drenched in sheer cold sweat,
I looked at the starry sky above
Feeling the emanating reassurance,
From the hazy enigmatic moon,
I chose to look back at the origin.
From the woods emerged a creature so exquisite,
It put the silvery unicorn to shame,
Adrenaline shot through my body
As the resilient creature scrutinized me
For what seemed like an eternity.
I felt desperation building up inside me,
As I tried to figure out this embodiment of mystery,
The moonlight reflecting from its smooth skin
Unnerving the creature still gazed at me.
Paralyzed and unable to move
I stood rooted to my spot
A myriad of emotions coursing through my body
My best memories engulfing me in waves of pleasure,
My worst nightmares haunting me to purgatory
In my mind I could see two roads ahead of me,
The fork between them more lucid than ever
One was that of blissful oblivion the other -
A continuum of grief and repentance
Overwhelmed by the bouts of emotions,
I no longer admired the creature in front of me.
My throat was dry and I wanted to run away
The creature’s eyes mesmerized me
Making any move an impossible feat.
I found myself glaring at the creature
Eyes full of revulsion and despondence.
The cold breeze was pricking and stabbing my body,
I yearned to see the sunshine again.
When I risked a wistful glance at the pale moon
The creature was gone taking with it
A whirlwind of despair, remorse and pain
I was whole again.
