The Heart
The heart
Is a fist sized organ
That only serves one purpose
Pumping blood
So why
Does this weak,
Fragile organ
Represent love
The heart
Doesn’t see your eyelashes
Brush your face
As you try not to fall asleep
The heart
Doesn’t feel your skin
Soft, smooth
And radiating warmth
The heart
Doesn’t hear your voice
When you whisper softly
“Sweet dreams”
The heart
Doesn’t smell the grass
Between us
On lazy summer days
And the heart
Doesn’t taste your lips
Against mine
When you take my breath away
So how can the heart
Claim to know love
When it’s trapped inside
So far from you
