"and above all, watch with glittering eyes the world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. those who don't believe in magic will never find it." - roald dahl

My shoes were worn out,

and so was I.

Tired of running,

we both wanted to die.

but I couldn’t just leave,

without saying goodbye.

So I wrote my life,

on the sole of my shoe,

neat white ink,

against the midnight blue.

I wrote words of hate,

and my love for you.

I walked to the bridge,

but ignored the view,

I tossed my shoes,

and then I jumped too.

The author's comments:
I took a writing class this summer, and one day we went out on campus to a huge bridge. We noticed that the trees along side of the river were filled with hundreds of pairs of shoes. The one pair in particular that caught my eye had a ton of writing on the bottom, but it was too far away to read. For some reason my heart broke for these shoes, and so I wrote this - my first ever poem.
