Broken Steps
Staring at an empty wall
Same kind of emptiness overfilling your soul
Life has spun so fast, and you’ve lost control
All that’s needed is a helping hand,
A soul to hold on to;
A friend to confide in.
Something that’s slipped away so suddenly.
The wind is knocked out;
Barely breathing, a silent cry for mercy pours out.
Kicked on the floor,
Defeat is overwhelming.
The fear of the future is ever-present.
A step in the dark unknown is unimaginable.
But as the last strand of hope,
A last shot in the dark,
A foot steps forward;
You start doing the impossible.
You walk on, to move on.
Leaving the past and the pain behind.
The burning memories in your flesh start to fade.
You do the impossible,
Stepping forward into the unknown,
Simply moving on.
Not for looks or glamour;
Not for petty rivalry to see who’s the strongest.
No, you do it for you;
To save yourself, to save your soul.
