Quietly Loud

I wake up in the night
I am lying in a puddle of my own sweat
Panting,
Hyperventilating
I remember the day's events
The bombs going off
People running
People screaming
And the terror in their eyes.
I know sleep will be hard to come by tonight
Even though the whole world is quiet
My mind is filled with the noises of the night.

This poem was inspired by my experiences during the bombing of the Boston Marathon.
