Tongue-Tied
Eyes dark blue
Brown
Or gray
I’m not close enough to say
Like flints etched in your skin
They petrify me
Me.
But not my tongue
It flails stupidly
Like a fish out of water
Then shrivels in the dryness of my mouth
Words stumble out clumsily
And I talk myself senseless
Because I am looking at you looking at me
And the words keep spilling
And I cant mean what I say
And I cant say what I mean
And I no longer understand myself
Or speak a language
Other than that of your expressions
Shadowing over your face
And I watch your eyes timidly beneath lashes
As they begin to cool and stiffen
Beneath furrowed brows and I know
You don’t
You can’t possibly
Love someone like me.
Love someone like me…
