Fatal Escape
Life is suffering;
The Bible has made this plenty clear.
We eternally suffer
Because of the mistake of our forbearer's—
Adam and Eve.
So how do we transcend this suffering?
How do we find peace?
Many religions offer an answer to this;
Buddhism through enlightenment,
Christianity through faith,
But do these truly relieve our suffering
Or are they only just perceptions,
Mistruths to lead us into a stage of false compliance?
Buddha suffered.
Jesus suffered.
Everyone suffers,
Until they are no more.
So in this essence,
The only way to escape the suffering
Is death.
For each life is a winding tree,
Ever growing, but also standing still,
Trying to stand strong through the years,
Weathering the storms.
But eventually the branches of the tree
Start to break under the weight
Of the burden they hold,
And the tree gives in to sickness.
Then the tree is cut down,
Torn up by its roots—
Not only to release the tree
From the suffering that encompasses it,
But also to protect the trees around it from harm.
Sometimes, we too
Become ill,
And our minds fade and break
Under the pressure of sorrow,
And we too are encompassed
By a deep, relentless suffering.
And in this time,
When we are still alive,
But not really living,
In which sickness has taken ahold
And is slowly creeping through us,
Wouldn’t death be better?
For we are already dying,
Albeit slowly and painfully,
Like a tree being eaten alive by termites.
In this case
Wouldn’t a quick death be better
Than a slow death—
Slowly being devoured
By the suffering,
Only to buy an insignificant amount of time?
Life is the suffering
So death is the only escape
From this bank
Of existence.
