Friends
I sit down in class,
Feeling alone,
Uncomfortable.
Nothing new.
I take a deep breath.
I hate being quiet.
I hate being shy.
It's not me.
Why am I not talking?
Why can't I be myself?
I'd have much more friends.
I sit there, feeling sorry for myself.
But I soon notice another girl, shy, just like me.
My muscles don't comply, but my brain tells me, "Go talk to her."
Finally, after a big battle, my mind won over my body, and I somehow made my way over to her.
I smile, and say, "Hi."
She looks up,
Not expecting the word to be aimed at her.
She sees me.
Her eyes light up.
A quiet reply,"Hello."
Comes from her mouth.
I sit next to her.
She asks me my name.
"Hanah," I say.
"My name is Sandra," she says.
We talk.
The final bell rings, and it's time to go.
"Well, seeya!" I wave.
"Goodbye," she waves back.
The next day, I sit by her again.
"Can I tell you something?" She asks.
"Sure," I say.
"Thank you," she says sheepishly.
There is no need for her to say anymore.
I know exactly what she is talking about.
"Thank you," I repeat back to her.
We become good friends.
She thinks I did that to be nice.
I spoke to her, because I needed a friend.
She is that friend that I didn't have.
I am that friend that she didn't have.
Friends can make a difference.
A difference between life and death.
The choice of friends can make a difference between wrong or right.
Friends are the reason I am happy.
