Thousand upon thousand of tiny dancers twinkle
Before my eyes
Their great grace stealing
The show from the main dancer, the brightest but two weeks ago.

I stare at them, enchanted, watching them
Twirl and spin and grow and shrink
Pirouetting faster and faster until finally
I crash

Now the spotlight is on me, beckoning me towards it
I try to stand, but my feet are bound
By iron stares
But I rise

I gallop awkwardly, fumbling
Over my stumbling feet,
Reaching for the light,
Grabbing a ghost.

Star Crashing is a popular game where I'm from. It involves looking up at the night sky, spinning around until you feel dizzy, and then having a friend wave a flashlight in front of your face, which you must then attempt to grab. This poem is my attempt of recapturing the feeling this experience gave me, and a way for me to share it with everyone else.
