Black Power
They chant, black power, black power, this is our hour. Now we the people, we the black people have dreams too, let me inform you. Lately I’ve been a little baffled on how some of this lowdown racism stuff has been tackled. I’m well aware racist acts are not done with because some people just won’t ever quit. So, you may ask, how do you handle it? I don’t, I just let go and let God. Now this is where some of you may applaud or where some of you may say man this girl is really odd. Let me explain, just like a plug in a wall my duty is to make sure God is my connecting rod so I won’t fall. A lot of the times it’s really tough because it’s like in the midst of all this stuff how can you trust, Him. If we take a look back into history, back in December of 1950, 1955 to be exact, we can take a look back on the bus where Mrs. Rosa Parks sat. She was in the “colored” section and this is truth no further explanation. She was arrested for not giving up her seat, now how is this a way to treat anybody. Now if we go to March of 1991 this is where all black people speaking up was shunned. Rodney King was practically beat to death and no one even had any lack of respect. He might have been wrong but there’s no respect when you beat someone ‘til they are no longer strong. I was not alive or even thought of during these times but if we go to January first 2009 that’s a little something I will definitely recognize. It was New Year’s Day in the Bay, this is where I’m from so it’s really easy for me to relate. We go back to respect, that’s something most people won’t address. Oscar Grant was an innocent man at the time so there’s no need to rewind back in time to his past. So if anyone may ask, yes, Oakland is not the safest place and everybody may not be doing the right thing, but right here is where we should chant and scream because Oscar Grant had a family. He was killed unarmed by a police officer with no regard. He was new to the game and mistaking a taser for a gun is something he couldn’t explain. Honestly this right here is really lame, an innocent black man is dead and it’s really hard for us to understand. Now this is where we should stand because really they won’t understand, us, and they won’t even trust us, so we must stand up because this situation is nothing to negate because none of us that walk this earth has a clean slate so this is where the term respect comes up again because not all of us are wise men. Now if we take our time line back to February 26, 2012 this is not a good place where we should dwell but if all else fails imam just tell how I feel on the real. Trayvon Martin, another innocent black man, no guns, no weapons in hand. Let’s take one step back, he wasn’t even a man yet, he was a teenager, still a kid and that ain’t nothin’ to play with. He lost his life at the age of 17; this is the age most black men are sellin weed for that green. They not thinkin’ it can be them next, they not knowin the devil is on a quest to take away what’s best for them. So back to Trayvon Martin, you need to get you a pencil that you can sharpen to write down these facts as I go back. For a fact his attack was based on his appearance. Did you heart it? Because he wore a hoodie he’s automatically placed in a black stereotype as a robber or a black man on drugs now that aint even right. He was stalked everywhere he walked. Now must I mention again he was unarmed my friend, all he had was Arizona and skittles in hand. Like a deer running from a predator Trayvon Martin was afraid this man was going to take his character; not aware he was going to take his life and that just ain’t right. Now imam give Zimmerman some grace and disregard the race but let’s get to the bigger picture, a life was taken, and man I’m shakin cuz there’s no mistakin that Trayvon Martin is one less kid who won’t awaken or won’t even be creatin the next big thing in this world. Now they chant, black power, black power, this is our hour! This is our hour to rise up and be the people God has called us to be. We can’t sit and sulk but we gotta get up and gather a big bulk of confidence and stop creatin all these alliances but start applyin some common sense and start usin some appliances and start requirin our fellow African Americans to come together. Instead of unleashing our anger we need to come together as one and become the race that will no longer be shunned. Our image of the stereotypical black people won’t change if there’s still black on black crime now all that stuff will most def have to stop being inclined because we no longer have the time. If we want to be seen differently we have to absolutely act differently than what we are known to be. Just as Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, I also have a dream as to where we could be, where we should be. We don’t have to live in poverty. We can make it in the world and have plenty of money without being a rapper and you can also dress a little dapper without being a celebrity. Just know you can be all you can be as long as it’s through He. Once again my fellow black people rise up and be great, and don’t let these situations create an uproar but if anything let it make you wanna do more because they chant black power, black power, this is our hour. This is our hour to NOT hate any other race but to associate ourselves with them. Remember we have to truly forgive from deep within and not give in to any temptation. So, when they chant black power, black power, this is our hour, it’s our hour to show a lil hint on how we can really be different and not commit the same ol’ sins of judgment and resentment.
