Breathe
A natural movement
your body manages
the easy up and down
of your chest
“Breathe in you nose
out your mouth,
and keep on running.”
All the inhales and exhales.
Red cheeks and perspiration,
out of breath.
Exhaustion.
A moment of relaxation,
A moment of peace
from chaos.
In the sweet summer air,
diving underneath
then emerging
for a gasp of air.
Frustration and overwhelmed
Cursing under your breath.
Big sighs and yoga breaths,
too many to count
wasting precious moments.
Steady, calm,
relaxed breaths
as you turn in for the night.
Finally,
when you manage to take your last breath,
you understand how necessary
each breath is.
You just learn how to breathe
when there is no more breaths for you to take.
