Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
Cancer would nod at her
As they passed one another
On the street.
She’d nod back,
Maybe even wave.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
But time passed,
And things changed.
Cancer began to irritate her.
They’d have silent fights,
Going days without talking.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
Then Cancer began to get
On her nerves.
Cancer would be everywhere.
She’d look behind her,
And Cancer would be following.
She’d look up,
and Cancer would be hovering.
She’d look down,
And Cancer would be smiling
A big, toothy grin.
Get away, she thought.
But no,
Cancer wouldn’t leave.
Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
But time passed,
And things changed.
She started to feel
Bad for Cancer.
Poor Cancer, she thought.
Cancer must have no other friends
Besides me.
Poor Cancer.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
After a while,
She had slowly begun
To accept Cancer in her life.
They’d go on walks in the park,
Paint each other’s nails,
Go for swims at the beach.
Wow, she thought,
Cancer really isn’t that bad.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first,
But then the fights came.
At first, they were little,
Stupid fights about little,
Stupid things.
The fights got worse.
Cancer would scream at her,
And she’d scream back.
They’d tear each other’s
Hair out until their nails
Started to bleed.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first,
But that changed.
The fights with Cancer
Always left her feeling sad.
She’d cry herself to sleep,
Asking herself why she had even
Met Cancer in the first place.
She’d get up,
And all she’d think of was Cancer.
She’d eat breakfast,
And all she’d think of was Cancer.
She’d walk to work,
And all she’d think of was Cancer.
Cancer.
My Cancer, she thought.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
But time passed,
And things changed.
She missed Cancer.
She’d do anything to get Cancer
Back in her life.
I’ll to anything, she thought.
Just please,
Come back.
Come back Cancer.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first.
Then one day,
She got out of bed.
She put on her slippers,
And went downstairs.
She opened the refrigerator,
Grabbed a carton of orange juice,
And poured herself a glass.
Someone tapped her on the shoulder.
She dropped the glass.
It broke.
Who was it that tapped
Her on the shoulder?
It was Cancer.
Cancer, she thought,
You stupid, stupid Cancer.
You made me drop the glass,
You idiot.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first
But then...
They got on each others nerves.
They hated.
They accepted.
They loved.
They annoyed.
They cried.
They missed one another.

Cancer first met her
They were civil at first,
But that soon changed.
