To an Old Friend
As my pain pulls me under
As my life begins to thunder

You appear before my very eyes
 A hero in disguise
You protect me from the dark
You make the bullet miss its mark
 You make me real inside
But you leave me nowhere to hide
 You puncture my soul
 But you make me whole
 My secrets spill out
But I know you understand without a doubt
You know you are my life
You know you made me throw away the knife
 But you see something more
 Something like a closed door
You know there’s something else for me
 Something that I can’t see
 You know I can’t stay
It’s not the part I need to play
You try to up and disappear
But we both know again we’ll hear
 There’s something that connects us
 Something that corrects us
Even though I leave you now
And for this I call a foul
I will return, this much is true
Because my hero, I love you
