Broken Dreams
We'd laugh
I remember your laughter clear and high and smiling
Always smiling
"So, lil Sis, what do you think?" He'd ask
I'd ponder
And answer
Sometimes no answer was needed
Brother and Sister
Sister and Brother
Something changed
His laughter meant more
A change in my heart when I saw his face
His familiar freckles
Dark framed glasses
Waving brown hair
I felt hot and jumpy when he smiled
His eyes
Green and kind
Made me smile irrationally
I love him for more than a friend
Then he left
"This is Ashley." He said
And then she was gone too
And we sat in the grass again
"What did I do wrong?"
I didn't answer
He'd broken my dreams
Shattered them unknowingly
Yet I'd still come crawling back
His smile still made me flush warmly
His laughter still made me smile
"Chris?"
"Yeah?"
"I like you."
And my dreams were mended once more
