Blurred Lines
There’s a quiet beauty to be found
In the forgotten cracks and spaces
Between and beyond male and female
A divine breath-taking androgyny
Or a fluid mix of traditional archetypes
Or a gorgeous soul in a mismatched vessel
Are all as valid as those who strive for normalcy
And often more striking for their differences
Yet even with this so called celebration of diversity
Even when movies, teachers and parents
Crow “Be yourself!” at each opportunity
Could a boy wear a dress to school?
Could a girl wear a suit and tie?
Of course, just be yourself!
You’re free to wade through a hallway of glares
Free to be excluded and snickered about
Free even to be beaten to a pulp
So be yourself!
