remember
do you remember that boy who didn't know what wallflower meant
so he peeled you off the wall
and made your throat sore from the effort
of not asking his name?
do you remember crossing your wrists
and finding flower stems supporting those fingers instead
those fingers that held down lines of music
so fiercely they bled
do you remember the ocean mornings
swimming that blue light to waking
and turning over to find no dents in the sheets
because they were still full
eyes closed
his breathing like the slowest heartbeat
you have ever known?
you remember the delicate touch of shoulders when you first fell
admiring how bones could be so carved to last
through such a violent change of gravity and heart
you remember the song of fingers and lines
the taste of tea tracing lips and the
scar on his neck, from some wild strange incident
and so many other things
you can't even remember that you remember
you remember the boy who didn't know what wallflower meant
do you remember?
