Does my insecurity show?
I try to keep quiet,
though it doesn't help.
I already hate how I look.
Now I hate the way I am.

I'm so insecure.
I feel like a child,
like the way I felt
when I was always left out
of the other children's games.
I feel out of place,
like I don't belong.

I hate the familiar feeling
I've tried so hard to forget
I've tried to forget my past.
But it's more often
that I remember
what it felt like
to be eight years old.

A shy little girl
who just wanted to be liked.
I had always been the girl
who never fit in just right.

I'd grown up well,
don't get me wrong.
But I don't think I can remember
a time when I liked myself.
I usually regret the things I say,
so I choose to say nothing at all
and hope my insecurity doesn't show.

The author's comments:
I had a lot of insecurities as a child, I still do. I was never part of the popular groups when I was in elementary school and I was almost always an outcast.
