The Necklace
There it hangs, there upon her tender, slender neck.
Three jewels that still her body, right above her breasts.
How she hates them, how she tries to take away the pain, how she tries to hide the shining diamonds from the main.
The gems hold the prayers of all the troubled times she had, they know of all the things he did; they know his goods and bad.
How could they not? Their purchaser left quite a mark engraved.
Not only on the necklace, but now on the lonely maid.
The one far on the left is the one people don't understand.
They notice it when they don't see the ring upon her hand.
She does not think of him near as much as she used to,
But how he left her charred, her heart left black and blue.
The right one isn't right as many people would agree.
Only certain people notice, only some will see.
Tis the many women that he said he wouldn't meet.
Each facet in the rock is but a piece of his deceit.
But, lo, the middle diamond is quite bigger than the rest.
You know it's there, but if you ask her, she would not confess.
This center diamond represents her trust that he had gained.
This one will never leave her, no, this has left a stain.
