a modern-day romantic

there are illusionary flowers
in her hair--
little barrettes
with fabric daisies,
a synthetic cherry blossom
adorning the elastic
ponytail holder
on the end of her
dirty blond fishtail braid.
she’s an instagram michelangelo,
full of wise oaths
and modern instances
she learned from reading wikipedia.
she holds the words
in her driftaway eyes;
they are captured in the blue
like restless birds
waiting to land on her
telephone-lined notebook paper.
