The checkered blanket
is swung into the air
and spread over the warm ground

The small group sits,
girls tucking dresses carefully
and men focused on the basket

Sandwiches are dispersed,
stories are shared,
memories reminisced,
(let's hope the ants
aren't planning an attack)

The heat gets overbearing
so everyone packs up,
and somebody folds
the checkered blanket.
