promises
could we believe
in something bigger
than our dreams?
could we taint that sweet emotion,
eliminate any and all repressed fears
and just stick with this notion?
could we smile into the chemical trail
depicting a soft, sherbet sunset
could we dive into a chlorine cloud
in the midst of summer heat
could we laze around
chameleons under the sun
and eat mint chocolate chip
ice cream
fingers growing sticky
could we walk amidst
cherry blossom trees
and marvel at the landscape
could we forget regret
and comfort ourselves
each day
knowing the many hands
that hold us
the eyes that lock on
and refuse to waver
the words drawing out
the anxiety
and doing us all a favor
by letting us live
and not fearing
the consequences
and smoking till
we pass out
blowing wreaths
of blue violet
into faces
screamingly bright
by abandoning the angst
and marching confident
into the day
by being defiant
and dying a martyr
for everything we believe in
by taking chances
simply by believing
we can do it all.
