We fight
We die
Passing no surmise
We cringe tonight .
Because our duty has no choice.
When the stars come out
We pray for his life.

We fought to prove
That blood could kill
Useless generation
Led to wasted addictions

Heroic duties
Given stars of accountancies
The stories we tell
Are real and alive
No moral can be said
When death is such a crime.

We hump
The burdens we hold
Memories of the past
That stay with us.

They say you’re a hero
Well that’s never going to be true
I have sinned when I was forced to kill
And I will always forgive him.

A candle left out to remember
The hopes we have
For ending this forever
Peace to be found
Zapped, while zipping.

The author's comments:
Inspired from the book, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brian. The poem talks about how war is so much more than a fight between countries, how it affects the life of a soldier.
