I see your face
With hidden tears
Screaming for freedom
On weekend layers
Nobody knows
What your hiding back there.
Your reality,
Of perception lies;
In what we behold

We wear a mask
Of gravel and tears
Ripping scars and
Heinous dares.
Cuts and gashes
Only make us smaller
A hidden bubble
Makes you bigger and bigger.

A mask is worn
With better perfection
A new attire
That grabs attention;
From smoky mirrors
That demand correction.

Everyday as I walk across the halls in my high school, I always notice the large amount of makeup teenagers wear as well as the expressions they carry behind their perfected face. Their fake smiles have never fooled me when I see the emptiness and actual emotions they must always carry with them in a secluded part of their mind. My poem is about reality, about how many teenagers socially carry themselves using an invisible mask. This poem was inspired from a program in my school called challenge day, which was about overcoming our insecurities by talking about our personal problems. I hope people will be able to relate to my poem, and change themselves by talking about their personal problems openly to feel better and find solutions or happiness through their struggles.
