The Hourglass Girl
Cold glass pressed on blistered lips
Small steps and dainty sips
She lived behind hourglass walls
Where sand beat time on her head
Seeing nothing but grains of sand
And feeling nothing but iron bands
Lonely being the princess with no prince
Painting words on her skin
Standing alone in her wrinkled skin
Beady eyes and wearing thin
Until finally the hourglass turns
Reverting to a young girl, she never learns
Pushing soft skin on shards of ice
Grains of sand turning to grains of rice
Broken free, drops of victory bleeding from her hands
Broken free, she finally ran
Darkening the light with her midnight hair
Broken wind seeping through her rips and tears
Alone she stands in the glowing snow
Exhausted from living in eternal woe
Standing on gravel, surrounded by winter
Barks of trees leaving splinters
Closing her eyes, she bathes in the night
Until she’s consumed by light
Crunching gravel rubbed against burning tires
Gasoline dripping fires
An old woman who never looked
An old man home still reading his book
Cracking her head on cushioning blows
The hourglass girl finally knows
Standing alone again, seeing red mix with white
Realizing He was always right
Full of hope she tried to escape her fate
Again she met herself too late
A man at home hugging tears instead of his wife
Examining the sharpness of his knife
Crawling through pristine silver doors
With shiny walls and transparent floors
Back into the hourglass she went
Bargaining for the life already spent
Shimmering memories painted her cell
The hourglass girl returned to hell
