The bombs whizzed above out heads like missiles I saw them leave a dent in the ground at least a foot deep we had been there, all 24 of us and now after many battles we had 12

I sat there in the cold trenches thinking of home I'm sure my daughter was alright, but it was my wife i was worried about she was pregnant and due any day i knew she would write me when our son was born

my friend was dead and i had been there to watch him die he bled until i thought he would bleed no more i felt him go limp in my arms i was truly alone now

i was cold, weak, and tired the last battle with the Germans had been brutal they had come at night, kidnapping, slaughtering, murdering my captain gave us orders "lay low, don't move, don't talk"

they found us anyway, killed most of us left the weak even weaker i had hid and shot any one that attacked me when they were gone our camp was dark, cold full of the deads spirits we moved on through the darkness and found a new camp

the war is a cold, dark place no family, friends or anything to keep you sane i miss my wife and children the captain says the war will end soon god i hope it does
