And it went off;
No way, no how.
Ahead, we raced on.

With the shrieks and the screams,
The blood and the tears,
Ahead, we raced on.

The same? No more;
Branded through and through.
Ahead, we raced on.

A daughter among the dead;
A “dagger in our hearts.”
Ahead, we raced on.

Lost for another,
But found in time;
Ahead, we raced on.

A life too soon,
With a love everlasting;
Ahead, we raced on.

The truth still unknown,
Baffled as one,
Ahead, we raced on.

Through the eve’ of the night,
We mourned and we sought,
Ahead, we raced on.

At last, at last!
Seen through, we have.
Ahead, we raced on.

We are one;
We are not done.
Ahead, we race on. . .

We Are Boston.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece during the aftermath of the Boston Bombings, being from just outside the city. It is always important to remember and embrace the truth, far past the wake of any tragedy.
