The Stranger
Sleepless nights haunt her
Tossing side to side
She grasps for a tranquility that refuses to show
She rolls over and fixes her gaze
Upon the golden waves that cascade over the edge
Of the single bed that lays ten feet away
She wonders how this creature lying across from her came to be
So different.
This odd, sparkly girl
She struggles to comprehend
How one can enjoy hours of shopping
And gossiping on the phone
She wonders why she hides inside
When she could be practicing her three-point shooting
And switch hitting
She doesn’t understand
Why she stays out all night at parties
When she could unwind in bed at 9:30
Where did she come from?
Certainly not the same place as her
Nothing about this blue-eyed beauty queen is familiar
Except her freckles.
