Silver and Gold
The suffocating gray
Filled with doubt and uncertainty
Struggling to push through to the pure white
But gloomy darkness is never far behind
Stalking
Whenever the horizons begin to brighten
Rolling blackouts from my past
Soil the once clean canvas
And the gray restores
A murky fusion of the two
A quicksand mixture
I surrender anything to keep from drowning
But as my head slips under
I realize
To continue would be fruitless.
I spend my life foolishly chasing this immaculate utopia
But just like any promised land
Expectations far exceed reality.
Armed with my new found epiphany
I allow myself a moment of rest,
The refreshing gray washing over me,
And am overcome with resolution.
After all, gray is like silver
And silver is like gold
And gold is beautiful.
