Click, swipe.

My whole world comes to life.

Only three new notifications? I guess I didn’t tweet enough last night…

The social media world buzzing as it goes about its daily business of informing me with useless information about people that I haven’t actually talked to since middle school.

With the click of a button and a quick scroll through the newsfeed, I learn about how unprepared the entire student body is for AP testing, about how she “doesn't even wanna hear it ”, and that some girl was wearing jeans at elite…what?

Enough of this.

I put down the universe for five minutes and get ready for the day.

Before I know it, a melodic dual buzz radiates through my walls and sends me running back to my device, craving whatever my screen displays.

A good morning text from my best friend, how sweet.

But wait, here comes a snap chat too!

The genius app that let's you send text messages customized by your face!

I text my way downstairs and out the door, jumping in my car while clicking on whatever Pandora station my fingertips find first before frantically speeding to school.

By second hour my screen illuminates displaying the usernames of four more people who like my Instagram post.

I get to study hall with a mental list of what I need to get done before next hour,

But let’s be serious… once my attention begs to get lost in "just a few" videos on vine, there's no hope of regaining it.

Class by class, my day passes throwing frequent glances at my phone as the icons fly about in their dances.

2:37 rolls around and the traffic screams about the media highway.

Texts roll every which way like tires at an intersection

Tweets catch wind out of rolled down sunroofs

Statuses and pictures plaster up against rearview mirrors and roll on into the night.

All to being again the next day.

It’s what we do when we wake up, it’s what we do before we go to bed.

Society expects each person to keep tabs on their peers.

It’s how our generation was raised, it’s that kind of day and age.

An iPhone-less day is unimaginable, for life without it would be unfathomable.

After a final click, swipe,

I turn out the light.
