Choices
You’re a teen now.
Middle school is over.
Punishments get more serious,
Days get shorter,
To-do lists become longer,
Friendships begin to fade.
You thought it would be easier,
Easier than being some young kid.
All for what?
A better education.
They say you should be thankful,
They say you should appreciate what you have.
Only getting things to have them taken away.
Money, time, freedom.
As useful as trying to argue against “because I said so”.
I hoped you enjoyed it while it lasted.
Wearing what you wanted,
Hanging out with who you wanted,
Having time to yourself.
None of that is in your control anymore.
Slowly losing grip on your own life,
To be controlled by the people around you.
You should’ve been more thankful.
The more you know, the sadder you’ll become.
Ignorance was bliss.
