I have just woken up and I am already behind,
Swimming in the work that I had left from the night before,
As I resolve that today will be different,
That today I will do what needs to be done.

First period comes and I have already broken my promise,
As I put off the work in front of me to finish what was my math homework yesterday.
I roll into Spanish hot, as in hand, as I speeded through a lengthy worksheet.
My teacher’s Spanish lesson didn't help with that English packet,
And after an hour of school, I’m ready for the day to end.

Chemistry chemically combined with my world history ended up a hot mess,
As it seems not even Napoleon could have helped remember to do that lab,
And not even Columbus couldn't help me navigate my way through that pop quiz.
My thought is that the day can only get better from here.

Like most of my thoughts, I was wrong,
As I worked so hard on the English packet only to forget the reading assigned with it.
Now I sit in class, reading Shakespeare, and dreading the socialist leaders I didn't study.
Then the world history test comes and goes, along with my grade in the class.

Math is relaxing and gives me time to plan, time to organize my afternoon.
I get home only to do one thing, as it is neither my homework nor studying,
But instead I set myself up for failure tomorrow.
