What This House Was Before
As she walked by,
she noticed me sitting
on the dreary, cold ground
staring, aimlessly staring,
at that old rundown house,
the one with weeds in the yard,
and broken glass windows
and graffiti on the door.
She noticed me staring
at what used to be,
of long summer days
and short winter nights
and warm family together.
That once beautiful reality
now only an empty shell
and a wistful dream.
