Wonderful Life
Life is like jumping off a ledge
and not knowing
where you’ll go;
maybe you’ll land splat into the
cold, cold water,
but maybe you’ll pick
yourself up and swim away
to warmer climes;
or just possibly life is like
the weather, so temperamental,
the sequoia tree can attest,
it’s been there, unchanging,
since way before life brought
me here, where I’m
cramping my neck to see the
filtered droplets of sunshine;
the skies are changing so quickly
you can’t predict anything;
rain, wind, sunshine, hail, snow,
it’s unstoppable; inexorable;
if you think back I think you’ll
remember (or maybe not)
your childhood, when your
cells were so busy at work,
dividing into a thousand different
special types, so maybe life’s
that too, that kind of possibility
and unpredictability that
only nature knows;
wonderfully unique, but you
can’t see past the smoke
even if you try.
