"The Endless Abyss of Death

Into the endless abyss of death,
no more to savor,
no more to find,
only death is found,
as is continued lifeless-living,
as feet sweep through the rubble,
as fingers pick up broken memories,
there is no hope,
there is no God,
only the endless abyss of death

Into the endless abyss of death,
blackness follows with every step,
sadness resumes with every reminisce,
the clouds weep with deep remorse,
as their ashes fall with no intent,
but to make us gaze upon the death and despair,
leaving little composure left to repair,
there is no hope,
there is no God,
only the endless abyss of death

Into the endless abyss of death,
all is gone,
so the wind will take me,
to a place beyond the great abyss,
to a place of joy and fulfillment,
but the reverie vanishes,
once again realization reveals itself,
there is no hope,
there is no God,
only the endless abyss of death

The author's comments:
I watched a movie recently about a man who was left with the destroyed remains of what once was his planet after nuclear war had rendered it to ashes. He had lost everything, but still pursued something. He pursued the something that answered his reason to continue living. This poem is about that man, and his pursuit for that something in an endless pit of nothing.
