Following the Flood
Sky opened up
and calm river exploded.
luminaries reversed,
came back and repeated,
leaves fell and rotted
and were reborn in the branches.
two years are gone.
nothings the same.
worlds become tainted,
fungus’ covers the ashes.
what once was your home
is destruction’s art now.
standing here,
besides busted hearth,
facing early suns’ unblinking stare
i cant avert my eyes.
behold the hell that we see.
blown out dirt banks
and floating tree trunks.
pieces of homes
and sunken grave stones.
iron in the river,
covering the shore.
melting off bicycles
and wire
and fenders of cars.
flowing off mountains,
out their dynamite scars.
Waters become orange and rich
and filled with dead fish.
but,
all sickness washed away
and warped by the flow.
it disintegrates and smoothes
in its eternal relow.
and moving water
through the earth’s thin veins
heals all things
and brings forth great change.
