Valley
A deep valley I travel through
The other side must be near
But as my feet tear up weeds and begin to bleed
The night begins to sow fear
Have I been traveling for hours or months?
The wear on my shoes is my only witness
And even they won’t give a testimony
Because I’m leaving them behind us
Us? Yes us. Me and death
Death and I walk in the pit.
We have yet to speak
But I know he is my only escape from it.
So I keep him close
And my thoughts at hand
Hoping one day, or one year
I can hold my sun of white lamb
