NIGHT ON THE OCEAN
The night was cold on the ocean.
the mist itself seemed to freeze,
solidifying on the facial hair of the old captain.

The storm was fierce,
and it put the men on edge.
Those with families held tattered photographs tightly.

The sea was black as the night above it,
and the moonlight rippled like ghouls on its surface.
It upset the men.

Among the sound of the rough seas,
the men noticed another sound,
a sound sharper, and more uncomfortable than waves.

The vengeful water rushed into the vessel,
swallowing the lower quarters of the ship,
devouring all that it encountered.

The men, one by one,
toppled into the cold, dark mass,
disappearing into the bleak depths of the sea.

As the ship took its last breath,
nothing but the masts remained
of the great vessel, defeated by the ocean.

The ship slowly slipped into the black shroud of the sea,
it’s cold depths satisfied by its most recent meal,
and all became calm once again.
