Summer Breeze
the sax and base serenade me as the warm ocean breeze hypnotizes me
my feet are engulfed in water as high tide rolls in and I hear those enchanting words
“Summer breeze makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind”
for the first time in my life, I had not a single worry
not a single care
not a single problem
far away from home and responsibilities
away from silly little sixth grade drama
it was magical, for once my entire family got along
you could just see the “feel good” look in everyone’s face
it felt so right
--like I belonged there
“ A little light shinin’ in through the window lets me know everything’s alright”
I went to bed for the soul purpose of waking up to that Florida sun
the days went by so slow, yet so fast
when the time came to leave
I cried
and cried
and cried
the song was on repeat in my head the whole flight back
“ Summer breeze makes me feel fine”
the pilot came over the intercom
“We will be landing in Chicago shortly… currently the weather is thirty two degrees and snowing…”
Sweet home Chicago
